Marriage, Love, Progeny, Conjugal, Divorce.

Marriage Love, Progeny, Conjugal, Divorce.
--
Marriage comes from मार / māra, / कुमार / kumāra / काम / kāma.
Which is described in वैदिक / vaidika, पौराणिक / paurāṇika texts as स्कन्द / skanda / मंगल / maṃgala and काम / kāma.
These are but synonyms and function at different levels in different ways.
As देवता / devatā both are sons of Lord शिव / śiva but also the planet 'Mars' in the वैदिक / vaidika, and पौराणिक / paurāṇika Astronomy and there-by in Astrology too.
This is interesting How both Lord शिव / śiva and Lord बुद्ध / Buddha had a ferocious fight with this
देवता / devatā and though Lord शिव / śiva burnt him to ashes, yielding to prayers of the spouse of
काम / kāma, granted him a life without a physical body.  Since then काम / kāma is said to reside with a formless body in the mind of men and women.
Lord बुद्ध / Buddha on the other hand is said to have vanquished मार / māra, / कुमार / kumāra / काम / kāma.
But how far the devotees of both the Lord could win over or defeat मार / māra, / कुमार / kumāra / काम / kāma is not clear to me. They must know better.
However, Veda insists that 'धर्म' and काम / kāma are both 2 पुरुषार्थ / great motives and goals noble to be pursued by man, if one wants to attain the Ultimate and the Supreme meaning / purpose of life.
And accordingly one has to perform the duty of having a family and follow the गृहस्थ धर्म and then should retire and try to find the Supreme Truth / deliverance from the cycle of repeated births.
Veda has therefore devise 4  वर्ण / varṇa according to the natural and hereditary tendencies of man and a rough classification has been made under the categories of these 4 types of men.
The 'Marriage' (विवाह) on one hand was / is thus a concept, and an institution on the other. And for society, this was founded as a custom and accordingly 'codes' were charted out.
The physiological need of male / female was secondary and delinquent behavior on the part of a man / woman was treated as an offence.
This concept / institution / custom thereby became prevalent all over the world.
Nevertheless today Marriage is of the same stuff.
We have lost the idea of 'Marriage' as is applicable in these 3 ways.
Traditions have lost this perspective.
Traditions have tried to impose 'Marriage' as a way of accommodating the sex-urge in the social pattern. Accordingly 'Ethics' is defined and one just finds one is unable to follow 'Ethics' in strict compliance.
We need either to say good-bye to all traditional ways of thinking and customs, find out if we really want 'Marriage' in any form, or we should see the facts with open eyes, questioning everything honestly to the core.
We seek security in relationship, We seek fidelity. Security, fidelity, commitments and dishonesty all are assumptions and could never be defined well to suit our comfort.
Marriage as a custom prevails and could be never outdated as long as we seek security in relationship, As long as we seek fidelity, security.
Fidelity, commitments and dishonesty are all mental modes of thought and only when we are obsessed with thought, we try to find out a solution, which is as much elusive as the thought.
There ends the road.

PN Subramanian

PN Subramanian

That delicate flower in utter disregard to and oblivious of the cruel harsh world that we know and live in, was rejoicing in her joyful bliss, vulnerable to the whims of 'Time', Yet it never knew time, and had transcended death and all the ugliness of death too. Had no past, no tomorrow. An expression of beauty timeless and deathless...,

The silent and meditative mind.

(This was originally posted by me as face-book status on 1 June 2012.)
--
Each and every question originates from a presumption. All presumptions lead into more and more presumptions. They beget seemingly new thoughts and then the mind gets involved in them. But if the source and cause of the tendency of in-attention of the mind is seen in the very beginning itself, the mind remains just silent and peaceful. Finding out how and why the presumption was taken to be valid in the very first instance, makes it clear that this happens due to un-awareness and in-attention only. A sleepy mind fails to question the truth and correctness of the presumption, and gets caught in the apparent purport only.

Narmada -1

Narmada -1.
सबिन्दु सिन्धु-सुस्खलत्तरंगभंगरंजितं |
...

...
It's strange that I had been thinking of Narmada since a week. One reason may be, because of the high temperature here these days that is similar to the places in Nimar-area, where flows the Narmada, where I lived in 1991 summer. And The silence at the bank of Narmada is so enchanting, ... if you don't think of the world, your mind soon gets merged into that deep silence that is within and without you. That is Narmada. If you can bear with that heat, it no more troubles you. You can drink a glass of water every half-an hour. The sweat keeps drenching you, and all the impurities are cleansed out of the body. A very simple diet can serve and keep your health in best way. The spiritual journey that begins at the banks of Narmada literally starts from a 'point', a 'bindu', that expands to the tremendous proportions when you listen to the sound of the river's murmur that rhymes 'shiva-shiva-shiva-shiva' the whole day. Though In the nights, this too vanishes in shiva. If you can forget all other worries of the world and can stay with this, you may hear another sound when the sound 'shiva-shiva-shiva-shiva' has turned into silence. In the night, you may listen to another variation 'rama-rama-rama-rama' which lasts for some 10 hours. 3 hours before sun-rise, this silence gets deepened when you are in deep sleep. Then listening to these 2 sounds for a week or a fortnight, one day you suddenly discover how the sound 'om-om-om-om' is suddenly heard. This 'om-om-om-om' that starts precisely before the sun-rise. You can be attentive and if find out for yourself if this is true. But you can't conjure-up wishfully these sounds. Nevertheless, it was a great thing to see, to experience this all at the bank of The River Narmada. May be, this could happen on the banks of other rivers also, but I could find this when I was at Omkareshwara, at the confluence of Narmada and Kaveri rivers.

A Poem for to-day.

A Poem for to-day.
--
Neither you move, nor moves the time,
Neither the screen moves nor moves the light,
It is the film that moves all along,
And there are 'the end'-s and there are 'the start'-s.
Imposing continuity where there is none,
Thought spins a story, casts past and future.
Getting then trapped in its own cobweb,
Thought seeks release from itself.
If this fact is seen with attention,
That thought is but a pattern,
The thinker too dissolves with thought,
And the Reality stands revealed.

'Space'.

Space.
'Some people put / insert a 'space',
Between a word and the semi-colon.
Isn't it quite okay?
Just as to emerge out and grow,
A poem needs a 'space',
The words to might need,
A 'space',
So that the breath may keep on,
Moving within and out,
And the poem could stay alive.

Translated from my Hindi poem :

आज की कविता
--
कुछ लोग,
शब्द और अर्धविराम के बीच भी,
'स्पेस' रख देते हैं,
ठीक ही तो है,
जैसे कविता को चाहिए होता है,
एक 'स्पेस',
वैसे ही शब्द भी चाहते होंगे,
एक 'स्पेस'
ताकि साँस आती जाती रहे,
और कविता जीवित रहे .

शुभ रात्रि.
