Marriage, Love, Progeny, Conjugal, Divorce.

Marriage Love, Progeny, Conjugal, Divorce.
--
Marriage comes from मार / māra, / कुमार / kumāra / काम / kāma.
Which is described in वैदिक / vaidika, पौराणिक / paurāṇika texts as स्कन्द / skanda / मंगल / maṃgala and काम / kāma.
These are but synonyms and function at different levels in different ways.
As देवता / devatā both are sons of Lord शिव / śiva but also the planet 'Mars' in the वैदिक / vaidika, and पौराणिक / paurāṇika Astronomy and there-by in Astrology too.
This is interesting How both Lord शिव / śiva and Lord बुद्ध / Buddha had a ferocious fight with this
देवता / devatā and though Lord शिव / śiva burnt him to ashes, yielding to prayers of the spouse of
काम / kāma, granted him a life without a physical body.  Since then काम / kāma is said to reside with a formless body in the mind of men and women.
Lord बुद्ध / Buddha on the other hand is said to have vanquished मार / māra, / कुमार / kumāra / काम / kāma.
But how far the devotees of both the Lord could win over or defeat मार / māra, / कुमार / kumāra / काम / kāma is not clear to me. They must know better.
However, Veda insists that 'धर्म' and काम / kāma are both 2 पुरुषार्थ / great motives and goals noble to be pursued by man, if one wants to attain the Ultimate and the Supreme meaning / purpose of life.
And accordingly one has to perform the duty of having a family and follow the गृहस्थ धर्म and then should retire and try to find the Supreme Truth / deliverance from the cycle of repeated births.
Veda has therefore devise 4  वर्ण / varṇa according to the natural and hereditary tendencies of man and a rough classification has been made under the categories of these 4 types of men.
The 'Marriage' (विवाह) on one hand was / is thus a concept, and an institution on the other. And for society, this was founded as a custom and accordingly 'codes' were charted out.
The physiological need of male / female was secondary and delinquent behavior on the part of a man / woman was treated as an offence.
This concept / institution / custom thereby became prevalent all over the world.
Nevertheless today Marriage is of the same stuff.
We have lost the idea of 'Marriage' as is applicable in these 3 ways.
Traditions have lost this perspective.
Traditions have tried to impose 'Marriage' as a way of accommodating the sex-urge in the social pattern. Accordingly 'Ethics' is defined and one just finds one is unable to follow 'Ethics' in strict compliance.
We need either to say good-bye to all traditional ways of thinking and customs, find out if we really want 'Marriage' in any form, or we should see the facts with open eyes, questioning everything honestly to the core.
We seek security in relationship, We seek fidelity. Security, fidelity, commitments and dishonesty all are assumptions and could never be defined well to suit our comfort.
Marriage as a custom prevails and could be never outdated as long as we seek security in relationship, As long as we seek fidelity, security.
Fidelity, commitments and dishonesty are all mental modes of thought and only when we are obsessed with thought, we try to find out a solution, which is as much elusive as the thought.
There ends the road.
