It's strange that I had been thinking of Narmada since a week. One reason may be, because of the high temperature here these days that is similar to the places in Nimar-area, where flows the Narmada, where I lived in 1991 summer. And The silence at the bank of Narmada is so enchanting, ... if you don't think of the world, your mind soon gets merged into that deep silence that is within and without you. That is Narmada. If you can bear with that heat, it no more troubles you. You can drink a glass of water every half-an hour. The sweat keeps drenching you, and all the impurities are cleansed out of the body. A very simple diet can serve and keep your health in best way. The spiritual journey that begins at the banks of Narmada literally starts from a 'point', a 'bindu', that expands to the tremendous proportions when you listen to the sound of the river's murmur that rhymes 'shiva-shiva-shiva-shiva' the whole day. Though In the nights, this too vanishes in shiva. If you can forget all other worries of the world and can stay with this, you may hear another sound when the sound 'shiva-shiva-shiva-shiva' has turned into silence. In the night, you may listen to another variation 'rama-rama-rama-rama' which lasts for some 10 hours. 3 hours before sun-rise, this silence gets deepened when you are in deep sleep. Then listening to these 2 sounds for a week or a fortnight, one day you suddenly discover how the sound 'om-om-om-om' is suddenly heard. This 'om-om-om-om' that starts precisely before the sun-rise. You can be attentive and if find out for yourself if this is true. But you can't conjure-up wishfully these sounds. Nevertheless, it was a great thing to see, to experience this all at the bank of The River Narmada. May be, this could happen on the banks of other rivers also, but I could find this when I was at Omkareshwara, at the confluence of Narmada and Kaveri rivers.
