'Meditation' on 'Brahman'

गौमेधम् यज्ञम् मुनयः
राजर्षयः अश्वमेधम् |
मेधितया मेधितव्यान्
यज्ञान् ब्राह्मणैः सर्वैः ||

gaumedhaM yajnaM munayaH
rAjarShayaH ashvamedhaM |
medhitayaa medhitavyaan.
yajnaan. brahmaNai sarvaiH ||

Meaning :
Some ascetics perform sacrifice by means of meditating upon the Reality (Brahman.) by means of contemplating upon the consciousness of the cow, while others 'Arya' sages born of the Royal race, by means of contemplating upon the consciousness of the horse.
Note :
1 - 'Meditation' in Sanskrit comes from the word 'medhA' / 'medhitA' meaning contemplation.
Shrimadbhagavadgita Chapter 5 shloka 18 also tells about this.

2 - Aitareya- upaniShat also explains how to know Brahman by 'neti-neti' and 'iti-iti' in the Chapter 1, section 2, mantra 2.

'tAbhyo gAmAnayattA abruvanna vai no'yamalamiti tAbhyo'shvamAnayattA abruvanna vai no'yamalamiti'
(ऐतरेय-उपनिषद् / अध्याय 1, खण्ड 2, मंत्र 2 के अनुसार ताभ्यो गामानयत्ता अब्रुवन्न वै नोऽयमलमिति ताभ्योऽश्वमानयत्ता अब्रुवन्न वै नोऽयमलमिति)

अन्याः मिश्रितकर्मिणः
अशुचयः मलिनमतयः |
नरमेधमनुयुञ्ज्यन्ते
नरकाय वै ते नराः ||

anyAH mishritkarmiNaH
ashuchayaH malinamatayaH |
naramedhamanuyujyante
narakAya vai te narAH ||

Meaning :
On the other hand, those of impure mind and mixed-intellect, engage into violence against and killing the humans. Such people, by their such sinful actions fall into hell only.
