And again, I remember having read,

There are 8 'gana-s' of prosody. 

I also remember the 'ganasUtra' which explains them all.

It is as : 

यमाताराजभानसलगा .

ya-gana, ऽ।।,

ma-gana, ।।।, 

ta-gana, ।।ऽ,

ra-gana, ।ऽ।, 

ja-gana, ऽ।ऽ,

bha-gana,।ऽऽ,  

na-gana, ऽऽऽ 

and 

sa-gana, ऽऽ।.


This is denoted as:

 ऽ।।,

 ।।।, 

।।ऽ,

 ।ऽ।, 

ऽ।ऽ,

।ऽऽ, 

ऽऽऽ, 

ऽऽ।.

Where ’ऽ’ stands for 'laghu-matra', and

 ’।’ for 'dIrgha-matra'. Thus is the way a

 'metric-foot' in 'chhanda-shastra'

is adjudged. 

I am grateful to Eka Akshara,

 (or to Lord) for this new revelation / inspiration.

Thus,

 यमाताराजभानसलगा

 is an acronym that beautifully explains the structure

of a 'chhanda' that is a poetic-stanza as well as the 

veda-mantra.
