Some 23-plus years ago.
On this day,
I was sitting in my study.
Seemingly,
Trying to do my lessons.
But my mind was thinking of her.
A day before,
I could not stop myself,
And in an upsurge of emotion,
Had proposed to her.
And still,
Lost in dreams about her,
I was trying to concentrate,
Onto my College-notes.
When she came,
Beaming-up with joy,
And said,
''I've a gift for you''.
''Close your eyes- …''
''And I trust you,
You shall not open them,
Before I say you to do so !!"
Almost stupefied,
I quietly obeyed.
And Lo !
Within seconds,
She had tied the knot,
… … …
… … …
… … …
... ... ...
... ... ...
Literally,
Onto my right-wrist,
With a silken-thread !!
And exclaimed,
"Ha-Ha-Ha !!!!!
Now you can open your eyes".
Crest-fallen,
I looked at her,
''Why did you this to me";
In utter disbelief,
I asked to her.
''Oh ! It was just my reply to the proposal,
You had given to me that day.''
-Pat came her cool, innocent, elated,
Confident reply.
A few years there-after,
I married Nalini,
We have been married for 18-plus years.
Have two sweet kids.
Today, when the phone rang-up,
It was she on the other side,
Who had tied a Rakhee on my wrist on that day,
Some 23-plus years ago !
"How're you ?''
Asked she.
"Fine".
Said me.
She asked about Nalini and the kids.
She was coming to see me,
-To re-live that auspicious moment,
When she had tied a Raakhee,
Onto my wrist.
Putting away the phone,
I'm re-living that day,
And the 23-plus years there-after,
And realize now,
She is far more Intelligent,
-Than me !!
I know now,
What I didn't know ,
Some 23-plus years ago.
She has come, with a silk-thread in her hand,
I look at Nalini,
They are both smiling at me,
And I shyly stretch-out my right-wrist to her.
